π¨π¦ Joseph Kun Workshop Estate 4/4 Violin Back Plate (Rough Carved) β European Maple (Acer pseudoplatanus)
We are pleased to offer a full-size 4/4 violin back plate originating from the workshop estate of Joseph Kun (Ottawa, Ontario π¨π¦), one of Canadaβs most respected 20th-century violin makers.
This piece represents authentic workshop material from the Joseph Kun estate π¨π¦ and retains visible early carving work consistent with professional violin making processes.
Description
Instrument: Violin (4/4)
Component: Two-piece back plate
Wood: European Maple (Acer pseudoplatanus)
Construction: Bookmatched, center-joined
Working Stage: Arching started (rough carved); requires final shaping, graduation, purfling, and edge finishing
Length: Approximately just over 14.5 + inches
The maple displays medium-to-strong flame with good visual depth across both halves, consistent with traditional European violin tonewood selection. The plate has been joined and partially carved, leaving the next maker full flexibility to refine the arching and graduation according to their preferred model.
Quartered orientation and figure symmetry reflect established classical construction practices.
Minor tool marks and unfinished edge areas are present, consistent with the current stage of work. No structural concerns are noted at the center joint. Condition is appropriate for a workshop plate awaiting completion.
