🇨🇦 Joseph Kun Estate 4/4 Violin Top Plate (Soundboard) – European Spruce (Picea abies)
We are pleased to offer a 4/4 violin top plate originating from the workshop estate of Joseph Kun (Ottawa, Ontario 🇨🇦), one of Canada’s most respected 20th-century violin makers.
This piece represents authentic workshop material from the Joseph Kun estate 🇨🇦 and remains in an early carving stage, offering excellent potential for completion by a skilled luthier.
Instrument: Violin (4/4)
Component: Two-piece top plate (soundboard)
Wood: European Spruce (Picea abies)
Construction: Bookmatched, center-joined
Working Stage: Rough carved / early arching started; ready for final arching, graduation, f-hole cutting, and edgework
Length: Approximately just over 14 inches (full-size 4/4 range)
The spruce displays straight, even grain orientation consistent with traditional violin tonewood selection. The center joint appears clean and properly executed, and the plate retains sufficient thickness for final graduation according to the maker’s preferred model.
This stage is often preferred by professional makers, as it allows complete control over final tonal architecture while preserving authentic workshop origin.
This component originates from the Estate of Joseph Kun.
It was purchased at the Joseph Kun estate auction by Toronto luthier Filip Tomov and subsequently acquired directly from his workshop through established professional sourcing.
