Joseph Kun 4/4 Violin Back Plate β Flamed European Maple-
We are pleased to offer a 4/4 violin back plate originating from the workshop estate of Joseph Kun (Ottawa, Ontario), one of Canadaβs most respected 20th-century violin makers.
This piece represents authentic workshop material from the Joseph Kun estate.
Description
Instrument: Violin (4/4)
Component: Two-piece back plate
Wood: Flamed European Maple (Acer pseudoplatanus)
Construction: Bookmatched, center-joined
Working Stage: Rough arched; ready for final graduation and edge work
The maple displays medium-to-strong horizontal flame with attractive depth and consistent figure across both halves. The plate has been properly joined and roughed to arching, leaving the maker freedom for final graduation, purfling channeling, and edge refinement.
Quartered orientation and flame consistency indicate traditional violin tonewood selection.
Provenance
This component originates from the Estate of Joseph Kun.
It was purchased at the Joseph Kun estate auction by Toronto luthier Filip Tomov and subsequently acquired directly from his workshop through established professional sourcing.
